An Extra(Ordinary) Day

Today was an extremely uneventful day. Some may wonder how I could write about a day that is so uneventful, but like I've said before, those are the days I want to remember. This day I happened to be in Sparta, with a list of a few to-dos I wanted to knock out. For those that don't know, I'm a list kind of a person. I love lists and I love the feeling of making over-exaggerated marks on PAPER, not a phone screen, to cross off tasks. With that being said, I guess I'll share my top secret life tip. With any list you make, start out by writing "Make a list" as your first entry. That way, when you are finished with your list, you can already cross something off and be ready to conquer anything in front of you. And yes, I actually do this.

Anyway, I had some tidying to do around the "farm" and wanted to prepare a few new planters that will hopefully bear red, delicious tomatoes later this season. Today was the perfect day to do it. In fact, I'd have to say it was the most perfect day I remember. It was just like a day out of a movie or TV show - the sun was shining, there was no wind, and you could wear long sleeves without being too hot, or short sleeves without being too cold. Lucky for me, my list wasn't too extensive and I found myself swinging on the front porch swing, watching the cars go by. Cars of all shapes and sizes travel past my grandma's front porch. Some are so loud you almost have to cover your ears, and some are so quiet they nearly startle you when they whiz by. Some cars I've even started to recognize from times past as they go on about their lives. Most cars speed by without ever realizing I'm there, but I do enjoy returning a smile and a wave at those who do catch a glance as they drive by.

After swinging, I put on my shoes and headed towards the Ozark square. I made my way into City Hall and headed to the County Clerk. I was there to submit a Merchant's License form that will allow me to sell my produce in Christian County. A gentleman was walking out as I was walking in and I dealt with two very nice ladies who seemed interested in what I had planned for this summer. (I have found that people are generally easier to work with when you get out of Springfield, or any city, but don't tell anyone I said that.)

I made it back, now officially licensed to sell produce, and decided to celebrate with a can of pop on the front porch swing. I had accomplished all of my to-dos and spent the evening outside. I enjoy watching a small herd of cows across the street graze, move, graze, then move again while also letting my mind wander wherever it wants to go, just like the cows do. It's times like these that I wonder why these days mean so much to me - and I still don't guess I know the answer. Most people write about big, exciting adventures, and the news only covers groundbreaking stories that will captivate the audience. And here I am, writing and sharing about one of the most "boring" days I've had in a while.

I believe that comfort, happiness, and joy are not satisfied by exciting events or adventures to share on social media, but are only truly quenched by learning to appreciate the small things, or the "extra(ORDINARY)" days.

As fast as I drifted away into a mindless day, I was headed back to Springfield where I abruptly shifted my focus to the long list of unfinished schoolwork and fast-approaching finals. I'm still learning how to create more of these days while still being able to fulfill my responsibilities. But in the meantime, you can probably find me off Highway 14, swinging my life away.

You are definitely a grandson of Merle And Beaulah Satterfields! Two of the most wonderful people that ever walked the earth! Loved this! I am going to watch for your produce!
