A Warm 2021 Welcome

I bet most people were thinking that I had gone MIA over the past few months based on the lack of posting and updating through Mule Barn Farms. And honestly, sometimes I even felt like my brain has been MIA. I wanted to sit down and write a short post as an update to what is happening on my side of things as well as where I hope things will go in the future.

To start with some good news, my first crop of salad greens are in the ground. Today the weather hit 70 degrees and Spring fever hit me hard. I had to get outside and play in the dirt a little while. I ended up planting a mix of spinach, lettuce, and kale, which is a common combination for my taste in salad. Like some people already know, I can't plant anything in a way that makes sense, so of course I mixed the three species together so they can help each other out.

I have also been preparing additional beds made from cinder blocks for additional growing space in my backyard. Since I am finishing school in May, I am losing a very large area of growing space that was provided through school! I am doing my best to create several raised beds and allot sections of my yard for production. These raised beds will harbor everything from various flower varieties (my favorite), tomatoes, green beans, and peas. In-ground beds will consist of pumpkins, zucchini, okra, cucumbers, and maybe even a small corn patch. I've got plans, maps, and seeds. Now all I need is the time to play.

Speaking of time, I can have all of the plans in the world (and usually come pretty close), but I still have a fairly large unknown: I have to get a job. Adulting might not be all that it's cracked up to be. But in May I will graduate with a Master's in Plant Science and will proceed to find a job in a related agricultural field. I'm not a huge fan of unknowns, but there certainly is quite a bit left to question on how much time and how large of a scale I will be able to achieve with this year's garden.

With the "big unknown" looming, here are a couple of my plans for this year.

I would love the opportunity to create more bouquets and market them through our Facebook page, so watch in the next few months for announcements regarding any availability or waitlists. I also would like to attempt to add a couple more small-batch products that will be posted on the Facebook page when they become available. And of course I would enjoy to supply as much fresh produce as I can.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable year and keep tuning in as I become (hopefully) more active on here when things start back up again!
